NIOGRET (1910-2009) Camille

A native of Pont-de-Beauvoisin in Isère, Camille Niogret studied in Saint-Marcellin before entering the Lyon School of Fine Arts, where he graduated in 1928. He then continued his training at the Ecole Supérieure de Peinture in Brussels, where he won a gold medal.

Back in Lyon, he worked as a draftsman for the canuts. He joined the Témoignage group around Marcel Michaud, along with other leading painters of the period such as René-Maria Burlet, Jean Le Moal and Louis Thomas.
After the war, he taught art at the Ozanam school, the La Mache school and then at the Société d'enseignement professionnel du Rhône. In 1953, he became president of the Regain salon, to which he remained loyal throughout his life.

He then founded the "Groupe d'art monumental" to support artistic renewal in buildings (sculpture, stained glass, mosaics, etc.). At the end of his career, he joined forces with René-Maria Burlet to create the stained glass window decorating the Place Guichard - Bourse du Travail station on the Lyonnais metro.
He retired to Treffort, in the Ain region, with his wife Marie Bertone. He died in Bourg-en-Bresse on January 19, 2009.
